Childhood Fears ©

I feel the cold come through the walls This feeling I can’t touch at all Afraid of what
I’m letting in Knowing to well
the pain will begin So many memories
wash over me So many
I can hardly see What do they mean where are they from Like a child
who’s been overcome Running through
the fields of wheat Avoiding dark and unknown streets Faster and faster
unable to move Afraid there’d be nothing left to prove Unable to hide
from the feelings within As again the shadow closes in I feel the cold
it’s reaching for me From it’s icy embrace
I’ll never be free © 1994 Dorothy Carr
